The SSC CHSL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level) exam consists of three tiers:
Tier-I Computer Based Test Examination
Exam Mode: Online Every Questions (Objective type)
Exam Syllabus Sections:
I. General Intelligence (Reasoning)
II. General Awareness
III. Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill)
IV. English Language (Basic Knowledge)
Total Number of Questions: 100 (25 questions per section)
Total Marks: 200 marks (2 marks Every per question)
Time Duration: 60 (Sixty) minutes.
Negative Marking: 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.
Tier-I Examination Structure:

Tier-II (Descriptive Type Paper)
Examinations Mode: Pen-and-paper-based (Offline)
Language: English or Hindi
Total Marks: 100 marks
Time Duration: 1 hour
Questions Type: Essay and Letter/Application writing
Tier-II: Structure:
Essay Writing: Minimum 200 words and Maximum 250 words.
Letter/Application Writing: Minimum 150 and Maximum 200 words.
Tier-III (Skill Test and Typing Test)
Mode: Skill-based (Applicable for specific posts)
Typing Test:
English Typing Speed: 35 words every per minute
Hindi Typing Speed: 30 words every per minute
Skill Test: Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) for Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts
Speed Required: 8000 key depressions in every per hour
Final Selection: Based on performance in Tier I and Tier II.
Skill Test/Typing Test: Qualifying in nature, and the final merit will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in Tier I and Tier II.
